In a shocking loss to the Indian entertainment and fitness worlds, renowned Punjabi actor and bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman has died from a heart attack at the age of 41, his family confirmed on Thursday.
According to Ghuman’s manager, Yadvinder Singh, the performer had been grappling with shoulder discomfort earlier in the day and sought medical attention at a private facility in Amritsar. Tragically, while receiving care there, he experienced a sudden cardiac arrest around 5 p.m., as recounted by his nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, to journalists in Jalandhar.
Ghuman, originally from Gurdaspur and based in Jalandhar, leaves behind a legacy marked by athletic prowess and on-screen charisma. He clinched the Mr. India title in 2009 and earned a runner-up spot at the Mr. Asia competition that same year, championing a disciplined vegetarian regimen that inspired countless fitness enthusiasts. Transitioning seamlessly to acting, he made his mark in Punjabi cinema with a role in the 2012 hit “Kabaddi Once Again.” His Bollywood forays included a memorable appearance alongside superstar Salman Khan in the 2023 action thriller “Tiger 3,” as well as parts in “Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans” (2014) and “Marjaavan” (2019).
News of his untimely passing reverberated across political circles, drawing tributes from leaders of various parties who hailed him as a symbol of Punjabi grit and national pride. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, a BJP figure, mourned the loss on X, describing Ghuman as “the pride of Punjab” and “the He-Man of India.” “Passing away of the pride of Punjab, ‘the He-Man of India’, Varinder Ghuman ji, is an irreparable loss for the country. He set new standards in the world of fitness with his hard work and vegetarian lifestyle. His life will always be a source of inspiration for the youth,” Bittu wrote.
Echoing the sentiment, Congress MP and former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa shared his grief on the same platform. “It is heartbreaking to hear the news of the sudden demise of Punjab’s famous bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman. He brought glory to Punjab with his hard work, discipline, and talent. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this loss,” Randhawa stated.
Ghuman’s death underscores the fragility of life, even for those who embody peak physical conditioning, leaving fans, colleagues, and admirers to reflect on his enduring contributions to fitness and film.
