Uttar Pradesh CM to Inspect Rehab Center After Four Child Deaths Linked to Contaminated Water

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit a state-run rehabilitation center in Lucknow on Friday, following the tragic deaths of four children with special needs and the illness of more than a dozen others, potentially due to contaminated water, according to officials. The visit, scheduled for 10 a.m., comes as the government grapples with the aftermath of the incident at the Nirvan Rajkiya Bal Grih in the city’s Para area.

State authorities reported that the facility, which shelters 147 children mostly orphans and those with mental disabilities saw over 20 residents fall ill on Tuesday evening after consuming suspect water. The affected children were quickly moved to Lok Bandhu Raj Narayan Combined Hospital for treatment. On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak visited the hospital, where approximately 16 children remain under medical care.

Lucknow District Magistrate Vishak G confirmed to PTI that four children two boys and two girls, aged 12 to 17 succumbed to their conditions. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, with viscera preserved for further forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob indicated on Thursday that contaminated water is a likely culprit behind the outbreak.

The district administration has launched a probe to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragedy, as officials work to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents at the rehabilitation center.
