Ujjain Violence: 15 Buses Damaged, VHP Leader Injured After Clash in Tarana; Police Register Attempted Murder Case

The usually busy Tarana bus stand wore a deserted look on Friday, with no regular movement of passengers and vehicles. A shop located behind the bus stand also caught fire.
According to officials, the violence caused extensive damage to public and private property. As many as 15 buses were damaged, while more than a dozen cars were vandalised during the unrest.
WHAT TRIGGERED THE VIOLENCE
The incident dates back to Thursday evening, when a minor altercation between two groups in Tarana town spiralled into a violent clash. During the unrest, 11 passenger buses parked at the bus stand were targeted and damaged. At least two people, including a local leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), sustained serious injuries.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm near Sukhla Gali, located opposite the Bade Ram Temple. Police said a verbal exchange first took place, which later escalated into a physical assault.
As per initial information, Sohel Thakur, the city head of the VHP, was standing near the temple when Eshan Mirza and his associates approached him and questioned him, leading to an argument. The dispute quickly escalated, and Thakur was allegedly attacked from behind. He and his associate Rajat Thakur sustained serious injuries and were first taken to Tarana hospital before being referred to Ujjain due to their critical condition.
As news of the assault spread, tensions flared across the town. In the evening, miscreants allegedly pelted stones and used sticks to vandalise buses parked at the bus stand, causing heavy damage. Videos of the incident have since surfaced on social media.
Following the violence, members of Hindu organisations gathered in large numbers at Tarana police station, demanding the immediate arrest of those involved. On Friday morning, several Hindu leaders visited the police station and reportedly recited the Hanuman Chalisa inside the premises. They also demanded the demolition of the accused’s houses.
