Tragedy on Kedarnath Trek: Two People Killed in Landslide on Kedarnath Trek Route

RUDRAPRAYAG: A devastating landslide struck the trekking route to the Kedarnath shrine on Wednesday, claiming two lives and injuring three others, according to police. The incident occurred at 11:20 a.m. near Junglechatti ghat, when boulders tumbled down the hillside, striking pilgrims, palanquin bearers, and porters, said Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde.
The victims were swept into a gorge by the falling debris, Konde reported. Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams quickly arrived at the site, initiating a challenging search and rescue operation. Using ropes, they, along with local residents, worked to extract the deceased and injured from the gorge. Two individuals died instantly, while three others, including a woman, were injured. The woman sustained minor injuries, but the two seriously injured men were transferred to a health center in Gaurikund, the SP added.
Authorities are working to identify the victims. Meanwhile, pilgrim movement along the route continues under police supervision, Konde confirmed.
