TMC MP Sagarika Ghose Displays Delhi University Degree, Challenges PM Modi to Reveal His

New Delhi, August 25: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose on Monday posted her Delhi University Bachelor of Arts (History) degree on social media, openly challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make his own educational qualification public.

Her move came just hours after the Delhi High Court quashed a 2016 Central Information Commission (CIC) order that had asked Delhi University to allow inspection of PM Modi’s BA records from 1978.

Sagarika’s Post

In her message to the Prime Minister, Ghose wrote:

“Dear @narendramodi ji. Here’s a challenge: here’s my BA degree. Post your college degree for everyone to see. As prime minister of a democracy, what do you have to hide? Why is your education a secret, Modiji?”

Online Reactions

The post immediately drew strong reactions online. Many users applauded her call for transparency, while others dismissed it as political theatre. A section of netizens argued that debating degrees diverts attention from pressing issues, though some stressed that the Prime Minister’s educational background remains a legitimate matter of public interest.

Modi’s Degree Resurfaces

Several social media users responded by sharing Modi’s BA degree, which the BJP had released in 2016 amid controversy. At the time, questions were raised about its authenticity. In 2021, Delhi University reaffirmed that the document was genuine, explaining that the mention of 1979 instead of 1978 as his year of graduation was a clerical error.

Ghose’s Academic Credentials

The degree certificate shared by Ghose reveals that she completed her BA (Honours) in History under the 10+2+3 scheme in 1986, graduating with a First Division. She received the official degree at DU’s convocation in April 1987. The document is stamped with the seal of Delhi University and signed by the then Registrar and Vice-Chancellor.
