Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Police Thwart Terror Plot, Arrest Two Suspects in Bomb Conspiracy

In a coordinated effort, law enforcement from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh successfully disrupted a terrorist plot, apprehending two individuals suspected of planning bomb attacks. The suspects, identified as Sameer, a 27-year-old lift technician from Hyderabad’s Bhoiguda area, and Siraj Ur Rehman, an unemployed graduate from Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, were detained following a joint operation by the two states’ police forces.
According to authorities, the duo was allegedly preparing to conduct test explosions near Vizianagaram as a precursor to targeting a specific location. Intelligence officials, acting on critical information about the conspiracy, prompted the swift response that led to the arrests. During the investigation, police recovered explosive materials, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, from the suspects’ premises.
The operation began with the arrest of Siraj Ur Rehman in Vizianagaram, following a tip-off received by Andhra Pradesh’s counter-intelligence cell. Interrogation of Rehman provided key details that led to the subsequent apprehension of Sameer in Hyderabad. Authorities revealed that Rehman had procured bomb-making materials online, and the pair was allegedly acting under instructions from an ISIS module based in Saudi Arabia.
The suspects’ interrogations uncovered plans for a potential terrorist strike, though specific targets were not disclosed. The joint operation underscores the vigilance of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh police in countering terrorism threats, particularly during the festive season.
