Aligarh : A teacher of Aligarh Muslim University was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside the university campus, triggering panic among students and staff on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Rao Danish, a teacher at the ABK Union High School of AMU. Danish was sitting with his friends when unidentified attackers arrived on a scooter and opened fire.
AMU Proctor Professor Mohd. Wasim Ali said the university received information about a shooting near the library, following which the injured teacher was taken for medical treatment. The teacher died at the medical college while undergoing treatment. Later, the AMU Vice Chancellor, Naima Khatoon, also reached the Medical College and assured strict action.
SP Mayank Pathak said multiple police teams have been formed and are scanning CCTV footage and investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity. He added that the police are gathering information from the victim’s family and assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
Police are also investigating reports of illegal entry by outsiders into the AMU campus. Just a few days earlier, students had raised concerns with the university administration and police about unauthorised individuals entering the campus. Investigators are examining whether the assailants were among those outsiders and how they managed to gain access to a high-security area. Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadoun personally reached the crime scene to assess the situation.
