Stampede Victims’ Families to Get Rs 25 Lakh: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Increases Aid Amount

The Karnataka government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, announced a significant increase in financial aid for the families of victims who died in the recent stampede near Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The compensation has been raised from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh per family.

The tragic incident occurred on June 4th outside the stadium as a massive crowd gathered for a ceremony honoring the IPL 2025 champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). At least 11 people lost their lives, and 56 others sustained injuries.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Saturday confirmed: “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered that the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the tragedy… be increased to Rs 25 lakh each.” This state aid is separate from the ₹10 lakh compensation already pledged by the RCB franchise to each victim’s family. RCB also committed to establishing a support fund for the injured.

Reports indicate an estimated two to three lakh people converged on the venue after RCB secured the IPL title by defeating the Punjab Kings. The event was intended for pass holders only. However, the FIR filed in connection with the incident alleges a failure by RCB, event organizer DNA Entertainment Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to manage the crowd or implement sufficient safety measures. Misinformation circulating on social media, falsely claiming entry was allowed without tickets, is also cited as a factor that drew thousands.

While the Karnataka High Court has currently barred coercive action against the organizing bodies and their officials, KSCA secretary A Shankar and treasurer E Jairam resigned on Friday, accepting moral responsibility for the stampede.
