‘Spirit of Rising India’: PM Modi Praises Mahakumbh 2025 Success in Lok Sabha

Addressing the Lok Sabha during the current Parliament budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj as a shining example of India’s growing spirit. “I bow to crores of citizens who made Mahakumbh in Prayagraj a resounding success,” he said, emphasizing that the event embodied the nation’s ascent.
The Mahakumbh 2025, a modern iteration of the ancient Kumbh Mela, was held from January 13 to February 26, 2025, at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Marking a full orbital revolution of Jupiter around the Sun, this Hindu pilgrimage festival was declared the world’s largest gathering, with over 660 million participants taking a dip in the sacred river, according to figures from the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government.
Top Quotes from PM Modi’s Address
- Many Forms of Amrit
Modi highlighted the festival’s unifying power by saying, “Many forms of ‘Amrit’ have emerged from the Mahakumbh. The ‘Amrit’ of unity is its most sacred offering. People from every corner of the country came together, setting aside their egos to embrace the spirit of ‘Vayam’—not ‘I,’ but ‘We’—in Prayagraj.”
(Note: This praise comes despite criticisms faced by the UP government following a tragic stampede at the event on January 29, which resulted in about 30 deaths and multiple injuries.) - A Sense of Unity
Modi remarked on the diversity and togetherness witnessed at the festival, stating, “When millions from different states come together at the sacred Triveni and chant ‘Har Har Gange’ in various languages, it truly reflects the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ and strengthens our national unity.”
He also recalled his recent visit to Mauritius, where he carried sacred Gangajal from the Mahakumbh. “In Mauritius, when that holy water was offered at Ganga Talab, the devotion and celebratory atmosphere were truly remarkable,” he added. Notably, on March 17, he presented Gangajal from the Mahakumbh to US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. - Showcasing India’s Grandeur
Reflecting on the global stage, Modi declared, “The entire world witnessed India’s grandeur through the Mahakumbh. This national awakening will inspire new achievements and stands as a fitting response to those who question our strength.”
He stressed that the festival serves as an inspiration for addressing other critical issues, such as the crisis faced by India’s many rivers. “Taking a cue from the Kumbh, we must expand the tradition of river festivals to help the current generation understand the importance of water and bolster our efforts to clean and protect our rivers,” he said.
PM Modi’s remarks underline his vision of a united and rising India, with Mahakumbh 2025 serving as a testament to the nation’s collective strength and enduring cultural legacy.
