Delhi University Student’s Body Found in Yamuna After Six Days

New Delhi: The body of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a Delhi University student from Tripura who vanished six days ago, was discovered in the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening, according to Delhi Police. The student’s family identified her body, bringing a tragic close to an extensive search effort.

Debnath, a resident of Tripura, was last seen on July 7 after taking a cab to the Signature Bridge in north Delhi’s Majnu Ka Tila area. Police investigations, aided by technical surveillance, confirmed her last known location at the bridge. A handwritten note left by Debnath suggested she intended to take her own life, police sources. Authorities noted that her distress was linked to family issues rather than academic concerns.

The search operation, conducted by the Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), covered a stretch of the Yamuna River from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Debnath’s body was found approximately 10 kilometers downstream from the Signature Bridge, where she was last located.
