Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday lashed out at BJP, saying that the party is dictating terms to the central poll body and warned against deleting any genuine voters from the list in the upcoming SIR exercise. She also warned the BJP that she would take to the streets nationwide and shake the entire nation if she or her people were targeted in Bengal. If you target me in Bengal and I consider any assault on my people as a personal attack, then I will shake the entire nation. I will travel the whole nation after elections, she said.
The Trinamool Congress leader assured people that the Election Commission does not have the power to delete a single name and urged them not to be scared. It takes 3 years to conduct an SIR. It was last done in 2002. We never opposed SIR, but we said no genuine voters can be deleted, those who are beneficiaries of various government schemes…BJP is fixing the list from their party office and EC will decide accordingly.
Accusing the BJP of targeting specific communities and manipulating the electoral process, Mamata said, “BJP cannot fight and defeat me at my game,” while reiterating her commitment to protecting the rights of voters in West Bengal. She asserted that the BJP’s efforts would not succeed despite using government agencies or resources. Highlighting her concerns about the impartiality of the SIR process, Mamata also referred to the cancellation of her helicopter flight, calling it a “conspiracy” by the BJP to prevent her from reaching the rally.
She stressed her determination by reaching Bongaon by road and continued to address the issues affecting the Matua community and other beneficiaries. She warned that applying for CAA might create future complications for some voters. And when you apply for CAA and declare by yourself that you are a Bangladeshi citizen and now want to be an Indian citizen, it will be proven that you are a foreigner. Use your own brain and don’t decide your future based on what you see on social media or godi media,” she said.
Addressing issues of language and identity, Banerjee said, “Our mother language is Bengali, I speak the same language and was born in Birbhum. If they want they can brand me a Bangladeshi too!” Bangla has many dialects, it changes according to geography. But the language is Bangla,” she added. Banerjee also invoked the Constitution, saying, “Don’t forget Ambedkar created the constitution after a lot of thought. Our constitution calls for harmony among all religion.
