SIR : Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s Nephew And Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee Lashed Out At Election Commission

Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday lashed out at the Election Commission, claiming that the poll body is targeting Bengal citizens after sending a notice to Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen. Abhishek Banerjee alleged that even the Nobel-winning economist has been summoned before the poll body, calling the development sad.
This is so sad, they have sent a notice to Amartya Sen, who won the Nobel Prize for India, enriching the country and making it more renowned on the world stage. They have also sent a notice to cricketer Mohammed Shami, who played for India in the World Cup. They have sent a letter to the renowned actor Dev. It’s an attempt to discredit and harass everyone,” he said. Abhishek wondered how a” person like Amartya Sen, who is the pride of the nation and has earned its respect,” has been called for a SIR hearing.
When I came here I got to know Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen who brought global recognition for our country has been served hearing notice,” the TMC MP added. However, the Election Commission has not yet issued any official statement regarding Abhishek Banerjee’s claim about Amartya Sen. Trinamool Congress MP and actor Dev, whose real name is Deepak Adhikari, has also been summoned for SIR hearing.
Dev is the Member of Parliament from Ghatal in West Midnapore. Although he was born there, he later moved to Mumbai with his family due to his father’s work. He later returned to West Bengal and achieved success in the film industry. Dev is a permanent resident of South Kolkata. The reason why he has been summoned for the SIR hearing is not yet clear. Besides being a Tollywood superstar, Dev is also a political figure. He is a three-time MP from his birthplace, Ghatal.
Dev is not the only one from the Tollywood film industry to receive such a notice; popular actor Anirban Bhattacharya had also received a hearing notice earlier. He is also originally from West Midnapore and later moved to Kolkata with his family for work. The allegation against Anirban is that he did not provide any documents from 2002 while filling out the enumeration form.
