Eight Arrested in Sikkim for Alleged Months-Long Assault on 13-Year-Old Girl

Authorities in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district have detained eight individuals, including four minors, accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl over several months, police reported on Sunday.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by the Child Welfare Committee on Friday, prompted by concerns raised by the girl’s school about her health and demeanor. During counseling sessions, the girl disclosed that a local woman frequently summoned her for household chores and coerced her into sexual acts with the woman’s husband, according to police.
The girl further alleged that two other men were involved, with the woman pressuring her into sexual encounters with them for payment. Additionally, she identified four boys who reportedly assaulted her over the past year, police said.
Based on her account, police arrested the woman, her husband, and the two men, while apprehending the four juveniles. The girl is currently under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, receiving medical attention and counseling.
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation is ongoing, police added.
