Tharoor Dismisses Trump’s Claim of Mediating India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, heading an all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor, has refuted US President Donald Trump’s assertion that he facilitated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Speaking in Brazil, Tharoor emphasized that India required no external persuasion to halt the conflict, as the nation has always prioritized peace.

Tharoor clarified that the ceasefire, which followed four days of missile and drone exchanges, was a bilateral agreement with no third-party involvement. “India never wanted war,” he stated, addressing Trump’s repeated claims of brokering the truce. He suggested that if any persuasion occurred, it would have been directed at Pakistan, not India, as New Delhi’s actions were a response to terrorist activities. “Our response was solely against terrorism. If Pakistan had not escalated, we would not have reacted,” Tharoor.

The Indian delegation, led by Tharoor, is scheduled to visit the United States to garner support from American lawmakers for India’s stance on Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure. Coincidentally, a Pakistani delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will also be in the US, seeking to rally backing for Islamabad’s position. Tharoor described this overlap as an “interesting phenomenon” in comments .

Tharoor expressed respect for the American presidency but maintained that India’s perspective on the ceasefire differs from Trump’s narrative. “No one needed to convince us to stop,” he reiterated, underscoring India’s commitment to peace unless provoked by terrorism.
