Severe Weather Hits Bihar: 5 Killed By Lightning, 6 Girls Swept Away At Waterfall

Patna: Bihar is currently reeling under the impact of relentless heavy rainfall that has thrown life out of gear in several parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in 19 districts of Bihar today (Monday). Lightning strikes have claimed five lives in different districts, including that of a minor. In a separate incident in Gaya, six girls who were enjoying a day out at the Lagurahi Waterfall were swept away by the sudden rise in water level, though they were later rescued safely by emergency teams.
The deaths due to lightning occurred in Bhojpur, Buxar, and Nalanda districts. In Nalanda, two women, 45-year-old Surja Devi from Sirsia Bigha and Meena Devi, also 45, from Pasanghi village, were killed when lightning struck during a storm. A 12-year-old boy named Mohit Kumar lost his life in Buxar’s Kukurbhuka village, while Bhojpur reported two more fatalities, Sudarshan Yadav, aged 65, and Ganesh Yadav, who both died under similar circumstances.
Meanwhile, in Imamganj area of Gaya district, six girls visiting the Lagurahi Waterfall were caught in a strong current caused by sudden water flow. The situation turned critical for a while, but a prompt response ensured all six girls were rescued unharmed, though visibly shaken by the ordeal.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in 19 districts of Bihar today (Monday). The remaining 19 districts may witness light to moderate rain.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, cautioning that the ongoing weather conditions pose serious risks. The IMD has also urged people to avoid using mobile phones outdoors during lightning storms and not to take shelter in open or elevated areas.
As the state deals with the natural onslaught, the administration remains on high alert. Rescue and emergency response teams have been deployed in vulnerable zones to prevent further loss of life and ensure public safety.
