Congress’s Salman Khurshid replies to India-Pakistan ceasefire question

Congress leader Salman Khurshid, speaking at an event in Jakarta on Friday, clarified India’s stance on the recent ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, emphasizing that it was Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) who first reached out to India to halt hostilities during Operation Sindoor. Khurshid, a former external affairs minister and part of one of seven all-party delegations dispatched to articulate India’s position on terrorism globally, dismissed suggestions that India initiated the ceasefire talks as “complete hogwash.”
Addressing the media, Khurshid stressed that Pakistan made the initial contact after facing significant pressure from India’s military actions. “It’s clear to everyone that the call came from Pakistan’s DGMO to India’s DGMO,” he said, as reported by ANI. He underscored India’s unified stance against terrorism, urging Pakistan to cease such activities to foster any meaningful dialogue. Khurshid’s remarks came in response to questions about the ceasefire that followed intense cross-border exchanges, highlighting India’s firm response to terrorism and its commitment to a consistent national policy that transcends political divides.
