RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat dismisses fears of PM Modi retiring at 75: ‘Never said…’

New Delhi: Seeking to quell speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will step down after his 75th birthday in September 2025, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat rejected such claims. “I never said I will retire or that someone else should retire when they turn 75,” said Bhagwat, who will turn 75 days before PM Modi.

Speaking on the final day of his three-day lecture series at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, Bhagwat said the notion that the RSS decides “everything” for the BJP is “completely wrong,” adding that the RSS has no role in selecting a new BJP chief.

Addressing questions on foreign policy, Bhagwat said, “We don’t tell government how to deal with Trump; they know what to do and we will support it.” His remarks come amid Donald Trump’s 50 per cent tariffs on all Indian goods, which came into effect on Wednesday, August 27, according to Livemint.

On the language debate, Bhagwat asked, “What is the problem in learning English?” Calling it simply “a language,” he said he has read many English novels. “I was in Class 8 when my father got me novels such as Oliver Twist, Prisoner of Zenda to read,” he added.
