Meghalaya Murder Case: Victim’s Sister Addresses Social Media Criticism

Shrasti Raghuvanshi, the sister of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly murdered by his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has responded to criticism over her Instagram reels. In an interview, Shrasti defended her social media activity, stating that remaining silent would not have brought attention to her brother’s case. She emphasized that her posts were intended to raise awareness about the incident, which has shocked the nation.

The case, dubbed the “Meghalaya honeymoon murder,” unfolded after Raja and Sonam, married on May 11, 2025, in Indore, traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. The couple was reported missing on May 23, and Raja’s body was later found in a gorge on June 2. Sonam, who resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9, initially claimed she had been drugged and kidnapped. However, Meghalaya Police have dismissed her claims, alleging she orchestrated her husband’s murder with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three hired accomplices Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi.

Shrasti clarified that her reels were not meant to trivialize the tragedy but to highlight the injustice faced by her family. She expressed frustration over the public’s focus on her social media presence rather than the crime itself. “If I had stayed quiet, would anyone have noticed my brother’s case?” she asked. Shrasti also revealed that she has been in contact with Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, who has publicly condemned his sister’s actions and severed ties with her, expressing support for Raja’s family.

The investigation, led by Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team, has revealed chilling details. Sonam allegedly planned the murder with Raj Kushwaha, who enlisted the three accomplices to execute the killing. All five suspects are now in custody in Shillong, with authorities reconstructing the crime scene in Sohra to gather further evidence. The case has drawn significant attention, with public outrage directed at the accused, particularly after a video surfaced showing Raj Kushwaha being slapped by a passenger at Indore Airport while under police escort.

Raja’s family, devastated by the loss, has called for justice. Shrasti’s social media efforts, despite the backlash, have kept the case in the public eye, prompting discussions about the motives behind the murder and the complexities of the ongoing investigation.
