Chargesheet Unveils Details in Shocking Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case

Shillong, September 6, 2025: A 790-page chargesheet filed by the Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has revealed chilling details in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, killed during his honeymoon in May 2025. The document, presented to the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Sohra Sub-Division, names Sonam Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife, as the primary accused, alongside her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three others—Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan.
According to the chargesheet, the group faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 103(1) for murder, Section 238(a) for concealing evidence, and Section 61(2) for criminal conspiracy. All five accused are currently in judicial custody. The SIT alleges that Sonam and Kushwaha orchestrated the plot, with the other three assisting in the crime’s execution. A supplementary chargesheet is expected soon, targeting three additional individuals—property dealer Silome James, building owner Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balbir Ahirwar—for allegedly destroying evidence.
Raja and Sonam, married on May 11, 2025, arrived in Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon. On May 23, they were reported missing during a trek in the East Khasi Hills. On June 2, Raja’s mutilated body was discovered in a gorge near Sohra, also known as Cherrapunji. Sonam, initially reported missing, surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9, where she surrendered to authorities, as reported by PTI.
The chargesheet includes forensic reports, witness statements, and technical evidence, detailing the sequence of events leading to the murder. A report noted that Sonam claimed she was abducted and not involved, though police investigations point to her as a key conspirator. The case has drawn significant attention, with ongoing investigations to uncover further details, as confirmed by Meghalaya Police to PTI.
