Pahalgam Terror Attack: Rahul Gandhi Urges Justice for Victims

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, on Wednesday revealed he had consulted with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Congress’ J&K unit president Tariq Karra to discuss the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, seeking clarity on the unfolding situation.
In a post on X, Gandhi, the former Congress chief, condemned the attack and emphasized that the families of the victims deserve both justice and comprehensive support. “I spoke with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra regarding the tragic Pahalgam terror attack and received an update,” he wrote.
The Congress party, on Tuesday, had called on the government to accept responsibility for the attack rather than touting unsubstantiated claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. The party urged the convening of an all-party meeting to brief political leaders on the situation. Labeling the attack a heinous act against humanity, the Congress insisted it demands a resolute response.
According to officials, the assault occurred on Tuesday at a prominent tourist site in Pahalgam, south Kashmir, claiming at least 26 lives and leaving several others injured. Gandhi, who also serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, described the targeting of tourists as a deplorable and gut-wrenching act of cowardice. “My deepest condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones, and I wish for the swift recovery of those injured,” he stated.
Gandhi further stressed national unity in the fight against terrorism, urging the government to move beyond empty rhetoric about stability in Jammu and Kashmir. He called for tangible measures to prevent such atrocities and protect innocent lives.
