Deepak Yadav, the father of 25-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav, has been placed in one-day police custody following his arrest for her murder in Gurugram. The 49-year-old was detained on Thursday and appeared before a city court on Friday, where authorities secured a brief remand to recover ammunition linked to the crime.
Inspector Vinod Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 police station, told PTI, “We’ve been granted a one-day remand to retrieve ammunition from a plot of land owned by the accused near Rewari.” Police reports indicate that Deepak confessed to the murder during initial questioning.
Speculation about disputes over Radhika’s social media presence and her appearance in a music video surfaced, but Gurugram police PRO Sandeep Kumar dismissed these claims, stating, “No concrete evidence supports a social media angle.” Instead, he revealed that Deepak admitted to shooting his daughter three times with a licensed pistol due to ongoing disagreements about her running a tennis academy. “Deepak, who is financially stable, was upset that his daughter insisted on managing the academy, leading to frequent arguments,” Kumar told reporters.

The incident came to light when Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, heard gunshots on Thursday and rushed to Deepak’s residence, finding Radhika in a pool of blood in the kitchen. Relatives rushed her to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
