Punjab Youths Face Brutal Torture on Illegal US Migration Route

A group of five young men four from Punjab and one from Haryana suffered horrific abuse at the hands of human traffickers in Colombia while attempting to reach the United States via the illegal “donkey route,” according to a report. The perilous journey, often used by migrants to enter the US without legal documentation, turned deadly for three of the group, who were killed during their ordeal.

The survivors, including Balwinder Singh, endured extreme torture, as evidenced by chilling videos circulating on social media. The footage revealed the traffickers’ brutal methods, including beatings with iron rods, electric shocks, slashes with sharp blades, attempts at asphyxiation using plastic bags, and burns inflicted with melted plastic bottles. These acts were reportedly used to terrorize the victims and extort money from their families.

Balwinder Singh and another survivor managed to escape the traffickers’ clutches, fleeing through dense Colombian forests to reach a safe residential area. Their escape highlights the extreme dangers faced by those pursuing illegal migration routes, where vulnerability to exploitation and violence is rampant.
