Punjab is reeling under the impact of devastating floods, triggered by the overflowing Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers along with seasonal rivulets swollen by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Several districts including Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar are among the worst-hit, with homes submerged, crops destroyed, and livestock washed away.
Amid this crisis, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has stepped forward with a heartfelt message and tangible support for the affected people.
Diljit’s Message for Punjab
In a video shared on Instagram, Diljit spoke about the severity of the situation.
“The condition in Punjab is very bad due to floods. People have lost their homes, crops have been destroyed, animals have died, and lives have been shattered. Punjab is wounded, but not defeated,” he said.
He emphasized that Punjab had nurtured him, and in return, he vowed to stand by the state in this difficult time. Stressing that relief efforts should go beyond food and water, he said: “Until their lives are restored, we are with them.”
Diljit praised NGOs, young volunteers, and media teams working tirelessly on the ground and concluded with a prayer: “I hope we come together as brothers and sisters to rebuild our lives. May Waheguru give us strength.”
Adopts 10 Flood-Hit Village
Taking action, Diljit has adopted ten villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar that have been badly affected. His team shared on Instagram that their efforts are currently focused on essentials like food, clean water, and medical assistance, while long-term plans include rebuilding homes and livelihoods. “Together, we can rebuild,” the post read, calling for collective action.
