CM Fadnavis Announces Rs 5 Lakh Aid For Pune’s Navale Bridge Accident Victims

In the wake of a devastating collision on Pune’s Navale Bridge that left eight people dead and more than 20 others wounded, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged financial support to the bereaved families. The state government will provide Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of those who perished in the fiery mishap, which unfolded on Thursday and involved two colliding container trucks that subsequently trapped and engulfed a car.
Fadnavis described the event as profoundly distressing in a statement shared on X. “The loss of lives in the accident on Pune’s Navale Bridge is deeply regrettable and heartbreaking. I offer my sincere condolences to the departed souls and stand in solidarity with their grieving relatives. Assistance amounting to Rs 5 lakh will be extended to the families of the victims,” he stated.
The incident has elicited widespread sorrow from political figures, transcending party affiliations. Pune’s Guardian Minister, Ajit Pawar, voiced his dismay over the sequence of events—a truck crash followed by a vehicle’s entanglement and an ensuing blaze. “This calamity near Navale Bridge is utterly lamentable. The fatalities it has caused fill me with sorrow; I honor the memory of those lost and extend my sympathies to their loved ones. My thoughts are with the injured, whom I urge to recover swiftly,” Pawar remarked in a social media update.
Echoing this sentiment, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule conveyed her anguish at the scale of the tragedy. “The severe casualties from a car becoming wedged between two containers on Pune’s Navale Bridge are devastating. This occurrence is both tragic and avoidable. I send my deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased. Treatment is underway for the hurt, and I implore divine intervention for their prompt healing and safe return. I remain engaged with local authorities on the matter,” she posted.

Adding urgency to the discourse, NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Rohit Pawar highlighted the site’s notorious history as an accident hotspot. “Navale Bridge in Pune has long been a danger zone, claiming numerous lives through repeated crashes. Today’s bizarre collision has tragically taken over nine individuals, exacerbating the perils posed by congestion and heavy truck traffic. Despite ongoing incidents, authorities have yet to implement vital safeguards. It is imperative that the government address this critically and enact effective interventions,” Pawar asserted.
