PM Modi Honoured with Trinidad and Tobago’s Highest Civilian Award

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Trinidad and Tobago’s highest civilian accolade, ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,’ during his visit to the Caribbean nation, according to a PTI report. The honor recognizes his global leadership, deep connection with the Indian diaspora, and significant humanitarian efforts during the Covid-19 crisis.

Modi, who is on a two-day stop in Trinidad and Tobago as part of a five-nation tour, expressed gratitude for the award, stating, “This honor symbolizes the strong bond between our nations. I accept it on behalf of India’s 140 crore citizens, reflecting our shared history and culture.”

Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the award on Thursday, emphasizing the historic significance of Modi’s visit and the shared pride it represents for both nations.

Following the ceremony, Modi held a bilateral meeting with President Christine Kangaloo in Port of Spain. This marks his first visit to the country as prime minister and the first such bilateral visit from an Indian leader since 1999.

Prior to arriving in Trinidad and Tobago, Modi visited Ghana, where he was conferred with ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ for his distinguished statesmanship and global influence, as noted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
