Pakistan Responds to Ceasefire Violation Allegation, Says It Remains Committed to Agreement

Islamabad:  A day after India accused Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire agreement, Islamabad asserted that it remains “committed to faithful implementation” of the deal and called for restraint and communication to address any issues.

In a statement released on Sunday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that its forces were managing the situation “with responsibility and restraint,” while accusing India of ceasefire violations. The ministry emphasized that any disruptions in implementing the ceasefire should be resolved through dialogue at appropriate levels and urged both sides to ensure troops on the ground exercise caution.

This response follows allegations from New Delhi that Pakistani forces engaged in shelling and drone incursions in multiple Indian border districts, including Barmer in Rajasthan and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the ceasefire accord and extended thanks to U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating the agreement. “We thank President Trump for his leadership and proactive role for peace in the region,” Sharif wrote on X (formerly Twitter). He also acknowledged Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their efforts in promoting peace in South Asia.

Sharif described the ceasefire as a potential turning point for the resolution of longstanding regional disputes. In a televised address, he thanked global leaders for their support during the heightened India-Pakistan tensions and expressed hope that core issues such as Kashmir and water-sharing would eventually be resolved.

Meanwhile, India has maintained a firm stance on the situation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reiterated on Saturday that Indian armed forces were responding to Pakistan’s violations and have been instructed to remain vigilant and act decisively if further intrusions occur.

“We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility,” Misri said, emphasizing India’s readiness to respond strongly to any repetition of ceasefire breaches along the International Border and the Line of Control.
