Pakistan-Linked Hackers Target India with 1.5 Million Cyberattacks, Only 150 Succeed

In the wake of heightened tensions following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Maharashtra Cyber officials have reported that Indian government websites faced approximately 1.5 million cyberattacks originating from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Middle East. Despite the barrage, only 150 attacks were successful, according to authorities. These attacks persisted even after India and Pakistan agreed to halt military hostilities, though their frequency decreased.

A senior Maharashtra Cyber official refuted claims of data breaches at critical infrastructure, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, as well as aviation, municipal systems, and the Election Commission website. The agency, tasked with cybercrime investigation and security maintenance under the Maharashtra government, emphasized its effectiveness, stating it has prevented financial losses of Rs 600 crore since 2019 by combating cyber fraud.
