The Janata Dal (United) has said Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya took the drastic step of quitting politics and distancing herself from her family out of “pain”.
Rohini Acharya, an MBBS doctor, on Saturday announced that she was exiting politics and severing ties with her family. The move came a day after the RJD and the Mahagathbandhan alliance it leads put up a poor performance in the Bihar assembly elections 2025. In her post on X, she also mentioned two individuals by name – Sanjay Yadav and Rameez.
Reacting to her announcement, JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said the development raises serious questions for the RJD first family. “Rohini Acharya, who saved the life of Lalu Yadav, is now saying in pain that she is quitting the party and disowning the family. It is a big question on Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi,” Neeraj Kumar said. He was referring to Rohini donating a kidney to her father a few years ago.
BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav termed the matter an internal issue of the Yadav family but noted that the discord is visible to everyone. He said the feud within the household is playing out publicly.

Tensions within the family have been in the spotlight for some time. In May this year, Lalu Yadav announced that he was expelling his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the RJD for six years and removing him from the family. The decision followed a Facebook post in which Tej Pratap was seen with a woman described in the caption as his “partner”.
There had been speculation that Rohini Acharya was unhappy with Tej Pratap Yadav’s expulsion from the party. However, during the assembly poll campaign, she was also seen canvassing for her brother Tejashwi Yadav.
BJP leader Dilip Jaiswal on Saturday called the situation “unfortunate”, saying it was distressing to see Lalu Yadav’s family “falling apart”. “We have heard that she (Rohini Acharya) even donated her kidney to Lalu Prasad Yadav. It is unfortunate that Lalu Yadav’s family is falling apart. A family should stay united,” he told news agency PTI.
Rohini Acharya had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Saran last year but lost.
