New Delhi: In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen dead, the Indian Armed Forces carried out 24 precision missile strikes on nine identified terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The locations included Muridke and Bahawalpur, known to be linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
According to official figures, the coordinated strikes have resulted in the deaths of over 70 terrorists and injured more than 60 others. The military action, codenamed Operation Sindoor, was carried out in the early hours of May 7, lasting from 1:05 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., as confirmed by Col. Sofiya Qureshi during a press briefing.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said: “Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military installations have been targeted.” The ministry added that the objective was to dismantle terror infrastructure used to plan and launch cross-border attacks against India.
The strikes were conducted hours before a nationwide civil defence exercise was held across 244 districts, aimed at assessing emergency preparedness in the event of hostile actions. Indian authorities stated that the operation was undertaken after Pakistan failed to act against groups allegedly involved in last month’s violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
