Operation Trashi Update: Soldier Killed In Intense Gunfight With Terrorists In J&K’s Kishtwar

New Delhi: A soldier of the Indian Army was martyred in a fierce encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district early Thursday morning, the Indian Army confirmed. The gunbattle erupted in the Shingpora area of Chhatru after security forces launched a joint operation based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of terrorists.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps posted an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “During the ongoing operation, fierce gunfight is continuing. One of our #Bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the exchange of fire and has succumbed despite best medical efforts. Operation is in progress.”
The encounter began during a combing operation involving Army personnel and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), focusing on the forested zone between Shari and Mandral Dhok, near Singhpora in Chhatroo.
Earlier, the White Knight Corps announced the launch of “Operation Trashi” as troops made contact with terrorists in the region. Reinforcements have been deployed to assist in flushing out the militants, and the area remains under strict security control. This incident follows a series of recent encounters in the Kashmir Valley. Just days ago, three terrorists were gunned down by security forces in Nader Tral, Pulwama district. That operation was initiated after intelligence inputs suggested militant activity in the area.
Prior to that, in another significant operation in the Shukroo forest of Shopian’s Keller area, three Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives were neutralized. Security forces recovered a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition during the sweep. With successive encounters occurring across South Kashmir, security forces remain on high alert as the region continues to witness intermittent militant activity.
