Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Pakistan’s Murid Base: Satellite Images Shows Damage

New Delhi: Pakistan’s Murid Air Base sustained significant destruction during Indian military operations under Operation Sindoor conducted during the night hours between May 9-10. Detailed satellite imagery obtained by NDTV reveals a three-meter-diameter impact crater at the facility, positioned approximately 30 meters away from what appears to be an underground Pakistan Air Force installation.
The satellite data also captured structural damage to the roof of a building adjacent to unmanned aircraft storage hangars. Damien Symon, a geospatial intelligence analyst with Intel Lab who specializes in satellite imagery analysis for monitoring military and infrastructure developments, informed NDTV that India’s strikes targeted the most heavily secured section of the air base.
“The impact is evident at the most protected compound within Murid airbase. The roughly three-meter-wide munition crater sits just 30 meters north of one of two access points to what appears to be a subterranean facility,” Symon stated to the news outlet.
Satellite Evidence Analysis
Providing additional details, Symon explained that the targeted complex features extensive security measures including dual perimeter fencing, dedicated watchtowers, and controlled access systems, highlighting its strategic importance. The reinforced entrances suggest the site may function as specialized equipment storage or as a fortified operational shelter designed to withstand intense bombardment.
According to Symon’s assessment, part of the building’s rooftop caved inward, while the structure’s exterior walls displayed signs of damage. The Murid installation is situated in Pakistan’s Chakwal region, approximately 150 kilometers from the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The facility reportedly serves as support infrastructure for Pakistan’s Sargodha Air Base and Nur Khan Air Base, both of which were also targeted during India’s May 9-10 operations.
Operation Sindoor Background
India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror training facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir as retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist incident. Pakistan responded by attempting drone and missile attacks on Indian civilian and military installations, but Indian air defense systems successfully intercepted these strikes.
Between May 9-10, India conducted aerial attacks on 11 Pakistani air installations, causing substantial damage. Military operations concluded on May 10 when Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations established contact with Indian counterparts to negotiate a ceasefire agreement.
