New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave a powerful speech while leading the Operation Sindoor discussion in the Parliament amid heavy sloganeering and uproar by Opposition. The minister took a ‘China guru’ jibe at the Congress for repeatedly making claims on China and Pakistan and highlighted how the country is today paying for the mistakes made during the UPA rule.
While speaking during the Monsoon session of Parliament yesterday, Rahul claimed that while India thought it was fighting Pakistan, it was, actually fighting China. A few days back I said this in the House and they laughed at me. I said that India’s biggest foreign policy challenge has been to keep Pakistan and China separated… But we failed, and they have destroyed the Indian foreign policy. The Indian government thought that they were fighting Pakistan, and when they arrived, they realised that they were fighting Pakistan and China, he said.
In 2005, China was designated as a strategic partner during Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s visit… There is a famous concept called Chindia, a belief that China and India have common interests, and the main proponent of Chindia is the party spokesperson of the people opposite,” he said, referring to Congress.
Jaishankar said he visited China to clearly convey India’s stand on de-escalation, trade restrictions, and terrorism, not for the Olympics or secret deals. Some mention was made about visits, including my visit. Yes, I went to China. I went to China to make our position very clear about de-escalation, about trade restrictions, and about terrorism. I did not go to China for the Olympics. I did not go to China for secret agreements.
