CISF Guardians Shield 250 Lives Amidst Cross-Border Fury in Op Sindoor

In a testament to unwavering resolve, 19 members of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have received the prestigious DG’s Disc for their daring efforts in evacuating 250 civilians from the shadow of the Line of Control during Operation Sindoor. The award, presented by CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan, honors their exceptional bravery in protecting lives and vital infrastructure under intense fire.

Stationed at the Uri Hydro Electric Power Projects (UHEP-I and II) on the Jhelum River in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, these personnel faced relentless Pakistani shelling on the night of May 6-7. Despite explosions erupting perilously near their positions, they conducted methodical door-to-door rescues, guiding women, children, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) employees, and their families to safety. A CISF spokesperson highlighted in a statement that these swift interventions averted any fatalities among the group.

The CISF’s mandate includes counter-terrorism duties at the power plants, situated directly along the volatile India-Pakistan border. As hostilities escalated, the guards not only orchestrated the evacuation but also fortified bunkers for added protection. They sustained vital communication via POLNET and satellite networks, delivering urgent aid to those in peril.

In a display of tactical acumen, the team intercepted and downed hostile drones aimed at Indian facilities. They further secured armory reserves by redistributing weaponry, thwarting any risk of sabotage or loss. The statement emphasized that the guards’ vigilance preserved the full operational integrity of these key national assets, ensuring no disruptions amid the chaos.

Operation Sindoor, initiated by the Indian military, was a calculated response to a deadly terrorist assault in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people. The strikes targeted terrorist networks and military sites across the border.

The honored recipients span various ranks, including Commanding Officer Ravi Yadav, Deputy Commandant Manohar Singh, Assistant Commandant Subhash Kumar, Inspector Deepak Kumar Jha, Sub-Inspectors Anil Kumar and Deepak Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajeev Kumar and Sukhdev Singh, and Head Constables Manoj Kumar Sharma, Ram Lal, and Gurjit Singh. Constables Sushil V Kamble, Razique Rafique, Ravindra Wankhede, Tridev Chakma, Sohan Lal, Mufeed Ahmad, Mahesh Kumar, and Sandenaboina Raju also earned the accolade, according to force officials.

With a workforce exceeding 180,000, the CISF stands as a bulwark for essential government and private installations nationwide, from over 70 civilian airports to nuclear and space complexes. This recognition underscores the force’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s pulse in the face of adversity.
