Operation Sindoor a Landmark in Anti-Terror Fight: President Murmu in Independence Day Address

On the eve of Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu hailed Operation Sindoor India’s rapid retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack as a defining moment in the nation’s fight against terrorism.
Calling the April assault on civilians in Pahalgam “cowardly and utterly inhuman,” the President said India’s military response was marked by “decisive action and steely resolve.” She stressed that the operation “will be remembered in history as a shining example of humanity’s fight against terrorism,” underlining the readiness of the armed forces to face any threat to the nation.
Launched on May 7 following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, Operation Sindoor targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating over 100 militants. In response to Pakistan’s missile and drone strikes, India successfully defended its territory and hit back at enemy air bases. The mission demonstrated India’s indigenous defence prowess, deploying systems like Akash and BrahMos missiles, and earned praise for its precision and restraint.
President Murmu said the country’s united resolve after the Pahalgam attack sent “the most befitting response to those who sought to divide us.” She noted that the “world has recognised India’s position we will never be the aggressor, but we will not hesitate to defend our citizens.”
She also described Operation Sindoor as a test case for the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission in defence manufacturing, adding that its success proves “we are on the right path.”
