Banglore : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s residence in Sadashivanagar on Tuesday morning for a breakfast meeting scheduled at 9.30 am amid the ongoing power tussle in the state. The breakfast, entirely cooked at Shivakumar’s home, featured idli, dosa, upma, naati chicken and coffee.
DK Shivakumar also posted on X saying he had hosted the Chief Minister for breakfast at his residence “to reaffirm our commitment to good governance and the continued development of our state under the Congress vision.” Speaking after the breakfast meet, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar would “respond aggressively” if the BJP brought a no-confidence motion in the upcoming Assembly session. He said the Congress was fully prepared to counter all moves by the Opposition and had finalised its strategy for the winter session.
The Chief Minister added that farmers’ issues and other major matters concerning the state would be taken up for detailed debate during the session. He also said the Congress would convene a meeting of Members of Parliament from Karnataka on December 8 in Delhi to raise pending issues with the Union Government. DK Shivakumar said he had invited the Chief Minister to his residence and that they “cordially had breakfast” before holding political discussions.
On being asked about their engagement with the Congress High Command, Siddaramaiah said that he and Shivakumar would meet the central leadership, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, whenever granted an appointment. “We will abide by whatever decisions the High Command takes. There has been no communication so far,” he said. He added that all Congress MLAs were united ahead of the session. “We will unitedly face the Opposition. There are no differences. We will do as the High Command speaks.”
Meanwhile, top Karnataka Congress sources said there had been no movement within the party leadership regarding any change in the state’s power structure. According to sources, DK Shivakumar had not been granted an audience with the High Command and had been advised not to travel to Delhi while Parliament was in session. They said the party’s top brass had a brief interaction with Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala on Monday but did not discuss any plan to alter the leadership arrangement in Karnataka.
In an attempt to break the logjam over the leadership row involving the two leaders, Shivakumar had visited Siddaramaiah’s residence on Saturday, for a similar breakfast meeting, convened by Siddaramaiah at the behest of the Congress high command. After the meal, Siddaramaiah reiterated there was “no rift” between him and Shivakumar and pledged that both would abide by whatever the High Command decides for the party.
