Odisha Minor Assaulted Twice in Harrowing Ordeal

In a disturbing incident in Odisha’s Malkangiri district, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three men while returning from a friend’s birthday party on Sunday evening, according to police reports. The minor was forcibly taken to a forest area approximately 10-15 kilometers from Malkangiri town, where the initial assault occurred. After managing to escape her attackers, the girl faced further trauma when a truck driver allegedly raped her on the Malkangiri-Jeypore highway at Bijaghati.

Local residents spotted the girl in a suspicious situation with the truck driver and intervened, rescuing her and alerting the authorities. The police promptly arrested all four suspects, including the truck driver, as confirmed by Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Binod Patil during a press conference on Tuesday. Patil noted that the first assault took place in a forested area near Malkangiri town, with all four individuals involved in the crime now in custody.

The girl’s family had filed a missing person’s report at the Malkangiri Adarsh police station when she did not return home, according to Times Now. Following her rescue, the minor was sent to a shelter home for care and support, as reported by PTI. This incident has heightened concerns about women’s safety in Odisha, coming amidst other recent reports of sexual violence in the state.
