NSA Ajit Doval Meets PM Modi After Pakistan Strikes Jammu, Jaisalmer; India Hits Back

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on May 8 following a series of Pakistani attacks targeting Jammu and Jaisalmer, according to reports. The strikes came a day after India launched a military operation against terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in response to last month’s terror attack in Pahalgam.

Despite Pakistan’s retaliation efforts on May 7, which failed to breach Indian defenses, they initiated another assault on May 8. However, Indian forces once again repelled the attack, reportedly downing two Pakistani fighter jets an F-16 and a JF-17 amid intense explosions.

Following the confrontation, Prime Minister Modi held urgent discussions with NSA Doval to assess the evolving security situation. Several regions across Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan have since experienced power blackouts, while Indian forces reportedly intercepted and destroyed multiple drones sent across the border.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar confirmed diplomatic engagement with key international leaders, including U.S. Secretary Marco Rubio, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

“Spoke with US @SecRubio this evening. Deeply appreciate US commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism. Underlined India’s targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism. Will firmly counter any attempts at escalation,” Jaishankar posted on X.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports suggest India has conducted fresh strikes on Pakistani military infrastructure, targeting an airborne warning system (AWACS), missile sites in Lahore and Sialkot, and the defense network in Faisalabad.

The Indian Army has not yet released an official statement on the developments. A press briefing by the Ministry of External Affairs is anticipated on May 9 to provide further details.
