NIA Intensifies Probe with Raids Across Kolkata in CRPF Espionage Case

Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive raids at 15 locations across Kolkata on Saturday, targeting a case involving a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer accused of espionage for Pakistan. The operations focused on areas including Park Circus, Mominpur, Ekbalpur, Alipore, and Khidderpore, with specific attention to a travel agency on Diamond Harbour Road.

The NIA’s actions stem from the recent arrest of Moti Ram Jat, a CRPF Assistant Sub-Inspector, in Delhi. Jat is alleged to have shared sensitive national security information with Pakistani intelligence operatives, who reportedly posed as television journalists. The agency claims Jat received payments through various channels for his actions. Following his arrest, the CRPF dismissed Jat from service, and a special court in Delhi remanded him to NIA custody until June 6.

During the Kolkata raids, the NIA summoned the owner of the Diamond Harbour Road travel agency for questioning, suspecting irregular financial transactions linked to the case. Search operations covered a shop in Alipore, a hotel in Park Circus, and the travel agency’s office, as the agency seeks to uncover further details about the espionage network. The raids reflect the NIA’s ongoing efforts to address national security threats tied to the case.
