NIA Arrests CRPF Personnel For Allegedly Spying For Pakistan Intelligence: The Accused Jawan Received Funds From PIOs

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on charges of espionage for allegedly sharing classified information with Pakistan’s intelligence agencies. The accused, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Moti Ram Jat, was taken into custody in Delhi and has been remanded to NIA custody until June 6.

According to an official statement from the NIA, Jat had been leaking sensitive national security information to Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023. Investigators also uncovered evidence that he received payments from the PIOs through various channels, as per the reports. The agency is currently probing the extent of the security breach and potential links to a larger cross-border espionage network.

This arrest comes amid intensified counter-intelligence efforts by Indian security agencies following heightened tensions with Pakistan, particularly after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. In the past two weeks, at least 12 individuals from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have been detained over suspected ties to Pakistan-linked spy rings operating in northern India.

Jat’s dismissal from service was confirmed by the CRPF, which stated he was terminated effective May 21, 2025, under provisions of the Constitution of India and CRPF rules.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that senior CRPF officials initially questioned Jat on May 17 after receiving intelligence about his alleged contact with anti-national elements. Following internal inquiries, he was handed over to the NIA, which formally arrested.

The NIA is now working to determine the full scope of the information leaked, identify other possible conspirators, and dismantle any wider spy network operating in the region.
