Tragic Collision Claims Life of Finance Ministry Official on Delhi’s Ring Road

In a devastating incident on Delhi’s bustling Ring Road, a senior bureaucrat from the Union Ministry of Finance lost his life, while his wife sustained critical injuries after their motorcycle was struck by a BMW near the Delhi Cantt metro station on Sunday.

Navtoj Singh, aged 52 and serving as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, was en route home from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara with his wife, Sandeep Kaur, when the crash occurred, according to police reports. The collision left the couple in dire condition, prompting an immediate rush to medical care.

Eyewitnesses reported to authorities that a woman was behind the wheel of the luxury sedan at the time of impact. The vehicle, a BMW, was later found overturned on its side at the scene, with the motorcycle positioned adjacent to the road divider.

Following the mishap, the female driver, identified as Gaganpreet, and her husband Parikshit, who occupied the passenger seat, quickly transported the injured pair to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar via taxi, as detailed by a police spokesperson. However, the decision to convey them approximately 17 kilometers away from the accident site bypassing closer facilities has drawn sharp criticism from the couple’s son.

“My parents were heading back from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when the accident happened,” the son recounted. “Instead of a nearby hospital, they were taken all the way to GTB Nagar. Now my father is gone, and my mother is fighting for her life.” He further alleged that the BMW driver, who reportedly suffered minor injuries, accompanied them to the facility but has since vanished from records there. The son accused the hospital of reluctance in disclosing her location and suggested efforts to fabricate a medico-legal certificate in her favor.

Law enforcement acted swiftly upon arrival, securing both the BMW and the motorcycle as evidence. A specialized crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory experts conducted a thorough examination of the site. An FIR has been filed, and probes into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, police confirmed.

The accident caused significant snarls in local traffic, which were cleared only after the wreckage was towed away, restoring normal flow in the vicinity.

This heartbreaking event underscores the perils of urban roadways, leaving a family in mourning and raising questions about post-collision protocols in the capital.
