Muharram Holiday 2025: Schools, Colleges, and Offices to Close on July 6-7?

New Delhi – The Government of India has declared July 6 and 7, 2025, as public holidays in observance of Muharram, according to an official notification reported. This holiday will result in the closure of schools, colleges, and government offices across several states, with some regions observing the holiday on July 6 and others on July 7, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Muharram marks the Islamic New Year and is observed with solemnity by Muslims in India and worldwide. The holiday schedule varies by state, as confirmed by local government announcements. Central government offices, including banks and other public institutions, will also remain closed in states where the holiday is officially recognized.
