Tragic Mercedes Collision Near Delhi’s Ambience Mall Claims Young Life, Driver in Custody

In the early hours of Sunday, a high-speed Mercedes veered out of control near Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, slamming into a roadside pole and striking three bystanders—all employees at a nearby restaurant. The incident, which unfolded at 2:33 a.m. on Nelson Mandela Marg, left one man dead and two others hospitalized, prompting swift action from Delhi police who detained the driver at the scene.
The 29-year-old suspect, identified as Shivam from Karol Bagh, was behind the wheel of a borrowed luxury sedan, returning home with his wife and older brother after celebrating at a wedding. According to preliminary police findings, the vehicle encountered a sudden road diversion, causing it to swerve violently and collide with the pole at an auto stand where the victims had gathered. “He was returning home with his wife and elder brother after attending a wedding. As per preliminary inquiry, the vehicle lost balance due to a diversion, hitting a pole at an auto stand where the three victims were standing,” a police officer explained.
A distress call to the police control room at 2:33 a.m. alerted authorities to the chaos. Upon arrival, officers discovered the mangled Mercedes and three injured men, estimated to be in their mid-20s to mid-30s. The victims, who had just finished their shifts at the mall’s restaurant, were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, 23-year-old Rohit Singh from Chamoli, Uttarakhand, succumbed to his injuries en route or during treatment. The other two survivors remain under medical care, their conditions stable but serious.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed the details, noting that the damaged vehicle was impounded immediately. “There were three injured people aged around 25, 35 and 23. All of them worked at a restaurant in Ambience Mall. They were taken to a hospital where one of them, Rohit Singh, died during treatment. The other two injured persons are undergoing treatment,” Goel stated.
Shivam faces interrogation as investigators piece together the sequence of events. While no First Information Report has been filed yet, police emphasized that legal proceedings are underway against the driver. Eyewitness accounts and statements from the surviving victims are expected to bolster the case, shedding further light on the circumstances that turned a routine night into a fatal mishap.
This accident underscores the perils of high-speed driving on urban roads, particularly amid unexpected obstacles like diversions. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially during late-night hours when fatigue and reduced visibility compound risks.
