A bizarre incident unfolded in Patna after a woman’s Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV fell into a massive, water-filled pothole, prompting her to claim it was a “conspiracy” to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Nitu Singh Choubey was driving her Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV near Patna Junction when the vehicle plunged into a large crater left by construction work. All passengers in the vehicle escaped without injury. Viral videos of the incident showed the SUV more than halfway submerged in the muddy water, attracting a large crowd of onlookers.
In a surprising statement to reporters, Choubey linked the poor road condition directly to politics. “We spoke with the DM. This is a conspiracy to defame the government during the election period,” she said.
Despite blaming the incident on a political conspiracy, Choubey also held the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) responsible for the dangerous situation. She alleged that the agency had dug the pothole and left it unrepaired for over 20 days during the rainy season without any safety precautions.
“This is all BUIDCO’s fault,” she stated. “They created a pothole on the road and left it for 20 days. It’s the rainy season. Five people were in the car. If someone had lost their life, then who would take responsibility?”.
Choubey added that the lack of safety measures posed a significant threat, noting there were no barricades or warning signs around the crater. “After my car fell, another person on a bike also fell into the same ditch,” she said, highlighting the ongoing danger in a crowded area near the railway station.
The incident has spotlighted serious concerns over public safety and road maintenance in a prime area of the city.
