Kolkata Law College Student’s FIR Exposes Chilling Details Of Gangrape Ordeal: Main Accused Is An Ex-TMC Student Leader

Kolkata: A first-year law student at South Calcutta Law College has accused three men, including two current students and a former youth wing leader of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), of gangrape and blackmail inside the college premises. The 24-year-old woman’s harrowing account, detailed in her FIR, has sent shockwaves through the city, sparking protests and political outrage.

The accused, Monojit Mishra (31), a college staffer and former student leader, along with Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20), both current students, were arrested on June 27, a day after the woman reported the crime. They were remanded to police custody until July 1 by the Alipore court.

According to the FIR, the woman had gone to the campus in the Kasba area around 4 PM on June 25 for academic-related work. Everything seemed normal until around 6:10 PM, when the atmosphere turned sinister. One of the accused reportedly confessed romantic feelings for her and proposed marriage. Shortly after, she claims the main accused, Monojit Mishra, ordered the two others to step outside and lock the door.

“It was within a fraction of a second… He took me near the washroom and tried to force himself on me,” the survivor recounted. What followed was a two-hour ordeal of confinement and brutal sexual assault inside a security guard room on the college’s ground floor. The FIR describes the scene in harrowing detail: the woman pleading for her release, even resorting to touching Mishra’s feet. But he did not relent.

The medical examination confirmed physical injuries consistent with her account, bite marks, nail scratches, and evidence of forceful penetration. But the trauma, she says, extended far beyond physical pain. “He tried to hit me with a hockey stick. I just left myself like a dead body. He finished the act and then left me,” she said. The assault allegedly ended around 10:05 PM.

Even after the attack, the threats continued. The accused reportedly showed the survivor videos of the assault, threatening to share them publicly if she refused to cooperate in future. “They said they would kill my boyfriend and have my parents arrested,” she added.

Kolkata Police confirmed that all three men have been arrested and their mobile phones seized for forensic analysis. The college administration has yet to issue a formal statement, though student groups have already begun demonstrations demanding stricter security on campus and immediate expulsion of the accused.

Monojit Mishra’s ties to the TMC youth wing have intensified the political temperature in West Bengal. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has seized on the case, accusing the ruling party of fostering a culture of impunity and failing to protect women. The TMC, in turn, condemned the assault and distanced itself from Mishra.
