Singer Kinjal Dave Warns of Legal Action Amid Family’s Social Boycott Row

Ahmedabad: Gujarati folk singer Kinjal Dave has issued a strong response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the social boycott of her family, stating that she will pursue legal recourse if any formal complaint is lodged against them.

The issue stems from the community’s decision to impose a lifelong social boycott on Kinjal Dave’s father, Lalit Dave, and another individual, Prahlad Joshi, over an inter-caste marriage. The community has declared that members of these families will no longer be welcomed at any social or communal events.

In a clear statement reported by Sandesh, Kinjal Dave emphasized her readiness to take appropriate legal steps should the matter escalate to an official complaint targeting her family. The singer’s remarks highlight her determination to protect her relatives amid the backlash from certain community sections.

The boycott was announced publicly, reflecting strict adherence to traditional norms regarding caste boundaries in marriage. Community leaders have made it explicit that the ostracized families will face exclusion from all future gatherings and functions.

Kinjal Dave, known for her popular Garba songs, has maintained a firm stance without elaborating further on personal details. Her warning underscores the tension between individual choices and longstanding social customs in the region.

Authorities have not commented on potential interventions, as the matter remains a community-driven dispute. However, social boycotts have faced scrutiny under Indian laws prohibiting discrimination and untouchability practices.

The development has sparked discussions within local circles about evolving attitudes toward inter-caste unions in Gujarat. Kinjal Dave’s position signals a potential shift, where legal protections may be invoked to challenge such traditional sanctions.
