Khesari Lal to Ravi Kishan: “Not Against Religion — Against Those Who Seek Votes in Its Name”

RJD’s Chapra candidate and Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav said he has never opposed any faith, asserting his criticism is aimed at those who “instigate people and seek votes in the name of religion.” Responding to BJP MP and Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan’s jibe that he spoke against Sanatan Dharma, Khesari called Kishan an elder brother and declined to escalate the row, while reiterating that alongside temples, colleges, hospitals and jobs matter for people.

Khesari argued that questioning priorities is not anti-religion, adding that elevating education, healthcare and livelihoods should go hand-in-hand with faith. He also referenced Kishan’s past remarks made in the presence of Yogi Adityanath, saying “bade bhai hai, wo kuch bhi bol sakte hain,” and maintained he holds no personal rancor.

Kishan, for his part, had accused Khesari of opposing the Ram Temple and now the proposed Janaki temple by calling for a hospital instead, and further claimed that “as soon as we went to the House, they sold the Bhojpuri industry,” asking who defamed the regional cinema. The exchange underlines a sharpened campaign tone as Bhojpuri figures align on rival political platforms.

It bears noting that several Bhojpuri stars including Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Pawan Singh and Dinesh Yadav (Nirahua) are with the BJP, while Khesari joined the RJD ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections and is contesting from Chapra. Bihar votes in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14.
