Jaipur: Panic gripped a crowded neighborhood in Jaipur, Rajasthan, when a speeding Audi car suddenly went out of control. The vehicle rammed into pedestrians and roadside carts, resulting in one fatality and leaving 16 people injured. Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the death toll could have been significantly higher had people not scattered in time.
According to an India Today report, the incident occurred near Kharbas Circle in the Journalist Colony area of Jaipur. The Audi first collided with a road divider before veering suddenly toward the roadside. The car then ploughed through carts and shops for approximately 30 meters, crushing everything that came in its path.
The impact was so severe that over a dozen carts were overturned. The Audi’s excessive speed can be gauged from the fact that when it struck a stationary vehicle, that car flipped over.
Muhana Station House Officer (SHO) Gurubhupendra Singh revealed that preliminary investigation suggests the accident was caused by recklessness. He stated:
“The Audi was being driven at extremely high speed. There is strong suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle has been impounded and investigation is underway.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed Jaipur municipal authorities and hospital administration to ensure proper treatment of the injured. Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa also visited the accident site and confirmed that four persons were traveling in the Audi at the time of the incident. He said: “One person died after being crushed under the car. One individual has been taken into police custody.”
Police have disclosed that the accused are residents of areas surrounding Jaipur. Further action will be initiated after the investigation, including medical and forensic reports, is completed.
