Jagdeep Dhankhar to Vacate Vice President’s Residence Following Resignation, Turns Down Opposition Meeting Requests: Report

New Delhi: Following his abrupt resignation as Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar is preparing to move out of the Vice President Enclave, where he had been residing since April last year. His decision to step down has reportedly caught both the ruling and opposition camps off guard. According to reports, Dhankhar began packing on Monday night shortly after submitting his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, citing health concerns. The President accepted his resignation the following day.

Efforts by several opposition leaders to meet with Dhankhar after his announcement were reportedly unsuccessful. The report mentioned that leaders such as Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar of NCP (SP) had requested appointments, but “the opposition leaders couldn’t secure an appointment with the former VP.”

Dhankhar, 74, had moved into the newly-built Vice President Enclave on Church Road near the Parliament House Complex as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. Despite having over a year left in the residence, he is expected to vacate the premises soon, having lived there for approximately 15 months.

A senior official from the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry confirmed that Dhankhar would still be eligible for government accommodation. “He (Dhankhar) will be offered a Type VIII bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi or another area,” the official stated. This category of bungalow is typically allocated to senior Union ministers and party leaders.

The unexpected resignation has sparked widespread speculation over whether health concerns were the sole reason behind his decision.
