IPS Suicide Case : Senior Haryana Cop Sacked After Being Named In IPS Officer Suicide Case

Gurgaon : Senior Haryana cop and Superintendent of Police, Rohatk, Narendra Bijarniya has been removed from his post after being named in the case related to the alleged suicide of IPS officer Puran Kumar. This move comes after Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, filed a formal complaint at the police station, naming Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, the Rohtak SSP, and other senior officials, citing harassment and abetment.
Following her complaint, an FIR was registered against 13 officers. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini broke his silence on the matter, saying that justice would be ensured and no one would be spared, regardless of their status. No matter how influential the guilty person is, they will not be spared, Chief Minister Saini said, describing the death as a very tragic incident. Our government will conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.
If anyone harasses any person, we will not forgive them, he said, also urging the Opposition not to politicize such issues. If injustice has been done to the family, our government will ensure justice, he added. The committee has also given a call for a Mahapanchayat at the Sector 20 Gurudwara in Chandigarh, demanding justice for the IPS officer and immediate action against the accused officials. Sonia Gandhi has written to Amneet Kumar, saying that the death of Puran Kumar reminds how even senior Dalit bureaucrats are deprived of social equality.
Leaders including Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Randeep Surjewala, and Rahul Gandhi have called for immediate justice. Dalit organisations gathered outside the Chief Minister’s residence, demanding FIRs against the DGP, SSP, and other senior officers, warning of statewide protests if action was delayed. On October 7, Y Puran Kumar, senior Haryana IPS officer, shot himself dead at his Chandigarh residence and named 12 officers in his 9-page suicide note accusing them of mental harassment.
In the note, recovered from his pocket, he alleged harassment, discrimination, and administrative bias, as per sources. According to sources, the note accuses a DGP-rank officer of repeatedly harassing him by issuing unnecessary notices. Kumar also named 7–8 IPS and 2 IAS officers, alleging administrative interference, discrimination in postings, and bias in official reviews (ACRs).
