IndiGo CEO Announces Gradual Recovery With 1,650 Flights Operational

IndiGo’s Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers announced on Sunday that the carrier is working toward operating approximately 1,650 flights as it recovers from recent disruptions. Speaking in an internal video address to employees, Elbers emphasized that the airline is making steady progress in restoring normal operations.

The CEO revealed that Sunday’s On Time Performance is expected to reach 75 per cent. According to PTI, the video communication was delivered from the airline’s operational control centre. Elbers highlighted that the company has improved its cancellation procedures by informing passengers earlier, preventing them from arriving at airports for cancelled services.

Over recent days, IndiGo has experienced widespread flight delays and cancellations affecting thousands of travelers. The nation’s leading carrier, which typically runs close to 2,300 daily flights, managed to operate roughly 1,500 flights on Saturday—a significant increase from just over 700 on Friday.

The airline confirmed that 137 of its 138 destinations remain operational as of December 7.

Refund and luggage processing underway

IndiGo stated earlier on Sunday that refund procedures and baggage handling are actively being processed for all bookings, whether made directly or through third parties. The carrier advised travelers to verify their flight status on the official website before heading to airports while operational teams focus on service improvements.

The airline expressed growing optimism about network stabilization by December 10, an improvement from the previously indicated December 10-15 timeframe.
